1.0 What is a Pitmaster?
The Pitmaster is one of the Northern Empire’s greatest fighters, if not the best. He/she has proven his/her skill and has earned a carved belt complete with nameplate as well as the non-noble title of ‘Pitmaster’ for as long as he/she holds the position.

1.1 How can I become the Pitmaster?
There are two ways to become the Pitmaster: via Tournament or via Title Match. The two methods are outlined below. You must be a member of the following groups to be eligible to compete for the title: Felfrost, Caradoc Hold, Wolvenfang, Twilight Peak, Ravenwing.

1.2 – What is a Gladiator?

Simultaneous deaths count as one (1) victory for each person/team.

3.0 Pitmaster Grand Tournament
Once a year, the Pitmaster Grand Tournament (PGT) is held to crown new Pitmaster and Gladiator Champions! The tournament is comprised of the Pitmaster Singles Tournament and the Gladiator Teams Tournament. These tournaments are invitation only and not open to the general public. To gain entry a fighter must prove himself at selected events over the year leading up to the PGT.

3.1 Pitmaster Singles Tournament
This 8-man, invitation-only tournament is held to crown a new Pitmaster. Over the course of the year leading up to the event, seven selected Northern Empire events will give out an invitation to the winner of their tournaments. The last spot in the Grand Tournament is reserved for the current Pitmaster. The winner of the Singles Tournament is crowned the new Pitmaster and cannot lose his/her title until the new year.

3.2 Gladiator Teams Tournament
This 4-team, invitation-only tournament is held to crown a new team of Gladiators. Over the course of the year leading up to the event, selected Northern Empire events will give out an invitation to the winner of their tournaments. The team that wins the Gladiator Tournament earns the right to fight the current Gladiator champions for the Team Championship! The winner of this fight is crowned the new Gladiators and cannot lose their title until the new year.

Note: Unlike the Pitmaster Tournament, the Gladiator champions do not have to fight through their own tournament. They only compete against the team that wins the tournament. This is to allow more teams to fight in the smaller format.

4.0 – Title Match
Players can become Pitmaster or Gladiators by defeating the current Pitmaster/Gladiators in a Title Match. In order to earn a Title Match, the player(s) must win ANY public amtgard tournament (even ones outside the Northern Empire!) with at least eight (8) competitors, averaged over all styles if applicable. Once he/she/they win a tournament that player has a week from winning to declare on this website or to any Godstone Fair staff member that they wish to have a title shot. After declaring, that player may challenge the Pitmaster or Gladiators for his/her/their belt whenever and wherever they can find the time to have the match. The Pitmaster/Gladiator contender status lasts until the day before the Pitmaster Grand Tournament.

Note: Only teams of two (2) players may challenge for the Gladiator titles. Both members of the challenging team must have won a singles or team tournament to challenge for the team belts.

5.0 – Reeving
All Pitmaster and Gladiator matches are reeved, when possible, by a team of five reeves. There is one reeve in each corner of the arena and a final reeve acting as Head Reeve. The Head Reeve makes any and all calls on the match. The corner reeves act as eyes and ears of the head reeve.

5.1 – The Rule of Zero Interference
We use a different style of reeving compared to other tournaments. Our reeves are not allowed to make any calls during the matches. This is called the Rule of Zero Interference. If there is an issue during a match, the Head Reeve can give warnings or discipline the offenders between fights. The only time a reeve will stop a match is during dangerous or emergency situations.

5.2 – Order of Judgement
In each fight, the individuals in the fight have first say over what happened. If both fighters agree with the outcome, then the match will be called as such even if a reeve saw otherwise. If one of the fighters believes they were cheated in some way, they can call for the reeves. Once the reeves are called in, their word is final and will overrule anything the fighters may have decided prior. Reeves can choose to award a point to one, both or neither of the fighters based on their combined perspectives.

As of August 6, 2011, we do not support the use of cameras for reviewing replays of shots.

6.0 Being Pitmaster/Gladiator
Once a player becomes the Pitmaster he/she receives the belt from the previous Pitmaster/Gladiators and should notify the Godstone Fair (contact information below) and we will mail him/her their blank nameplate. You are responsible for getting the plate engraved with whatever name you wish. If you are the outgoing Pitmaster/Gladiators, make sure to remove your nameplate and keep it in case you ever regain the title. Please leave the two screws with the belt.

6.1 Keeping the Belt(s) Safe
Your only obligation as Pitmaster/Gladiators is to keep the belt safe from harm. Small damages to the belt will be repaired by the Godstone Fair. Larger repairs (as determined by the Fair) will incur a fee on the Pitmaster/Gladiator who was in possession of the belt at the time. This maximum fee for damages is $250.00 (complete belt replacement). For replacement screws/nameplates, please contact tyler@godstonefair.com
